Shiell Street Community Garden

Dundee City

Certificates
Level 5 - Outstanding
Certificate of Distinction

In 2024, Shiell Street and Queen Street Community Gardens were selected by Keep Scotland Beautiful as the winner of the Scottish level of the Gardening with Young People Award, one of five new RHS Community Awards.

Shiell St Community Garden is strip of land by a busy footpath to the Nature Reserve and Esplanade in Broughty Ferry. It has been developed by Grove Academy pupils over a number of years. The garden has 2 larger raised beds for veg planting, and 2 smaller beds as a nursery bed or additional planting. They have a carved fisherman and a handmade bench around a tree, creating a bit of artwork and interest at the site. Most people comment on the colour and the biodiversity the garden attracts. There is always something beautiful to draw the eye, and always a challenge around the next corner.
