Level 4 - Thriving

‘Bringing back the Roses’ - saving and re-vitalising Newburgh’s Memorial Garden.  One of only two ‘Rose’ Gardens maintained by Fife Council.  The garden, quite understandably, fell into neglect in 2020 during imposed lock down. Formal bedding did not happen and weeds overtook.  It was also noticed that the old roses in the rose bed were suffering from long term poor care, many were dead and disease was rife.

Over the course of 4 years the old roses have been saved, over 100 further added, handrails and benches installed, new care regimes in place, used for horticultural education, new trees planted, community fundraising and volunteers have all helped save the garden.  Above all the ongoing maintenance of the roses as well as the edging and weeding of all the beds.  Newburgh’s only area of formal planting.  Pipeline of ongoing improvements.  Increased use and enjoyment of the garden is now evident.  Full backing and support from all involved parties.
