Friends of Hartwood Paupers Cemetery

The Friends of Hartwood Paupers Cemetery is a project where they aim to:

• preserve and protect the former Lanarkshire, Hartwood, Paupers Cemetery site and enhance the site as a public amenity,
• maintain, repair, restore, preserve, improve, beautify and reconstruct the Cemetery site as a place of historical merit, and
• advance public education in the history of the mental health and the cemetery.

Giving back the names and identity to the 1,255 has been significant, but, more importantly, being able to connect and reuniting families to their long lost relatives is heartwarming.
