In 2024, East Haven Together was selected by Keep Scotland Beautiful as the winner of the Scottish level of the Gardening for Wildlife Award, one of five new RHS Community Awards. The group was then put forward to the UK level, and won the overall 2024 RHS Gardening for Wildlife Award. Find out more.
East Haven is a small rural community on the Angus Coast. Friends and residents work together to look after the coastal environment and create a warm welcome to visitors on National Cycle Network 1. The village charity East Haven Together has its own sustainability strategy which links to local, national and global goals. Community gardens promote the fishing heritage of the village and there is a focus on biodiversity and sustainable practices. East Haven Together work to remove both marine and terrestrial litter along the coast and work in partnership with many organisations and individuals with similar aims and priorities.
East Haven Together was one of four of our Beautiful Scotland groups who represented Scotland in the 2023 RHS Britain in Bloom UK finals. The group were recognised with a Gold medal certificate and were joint winners of the UK Best Coastal Community Award. East Haven Together's Jack Reid and Anne and Ian Bancroft were recognised with a RHS Community Champion award. In 2023, the group also received a Certificate of Recognition in the Beautiful Scotland and It's Your Neighbourhood Health and Wellbeing theme public vote.
In 2022, East Haven Together were joint winners (with Aberdeen Communities Together) of the overall Beautiful Scotland Rosebowl!
In 2021, East Haven Together won the RHS Scotland Award for Overcoming Adversity: East Haven Togetherneeded to address several tricky challenges in the last 18 months, all requiring a planned and consistent approach to see the issues through to their successful conclusion. This required a lot of hard work, determination and tenacity, and the competing demands of these different challenges needed to be managed. At the same time the group managed to maintain the standards of their other ongoing work in the village.
In 2018, East Haven Together was one of five groups representing Scotland in the RHS Britain in Bloom UK finals. The group was presented with a Gold medal certificate and also won the Coastal (under 12,000) category. Wendy Murray from the group was presented with a Community Champion Award.
