Brighten up Kirkconnel

The Brighten up Kirkconnel group will, as always, aim to make Kirkconnel a nice, colourful and clean environment for local residents to live in and for visitors to appreciate. The village also has a strong Mining Heritage which the group continues to honour.

In 2023, as well as being crowned the 'Best Small Village', Brighten up Kirkconnel won the Community Involvement Award: Community is at the heart of everything Brighten up Kirkconnel does to enhance the village. There is clear evidence of working with other village organisations, a very strong sense of the history of the place, and the group engages and works with young people on environmental projects. Special mention should go to the work of an adult resource centre, the local primary school, an information hub and the Community Council, who all mesh with this group to make the village a good place to live.
