Scottish Workplace Challenge saves over 75,000kg of carbon emissions

Almost 5,000 participants in the Scottish Workplace Challenge logged over 85,000 journeys in March. The Climate Challenge Fund team were delighted to have our own 'team' as part of the entry from Keep Scotland Beautiful which saved over a tonne of carbon emissions.

The Scottish Workplace Challenge organisers at Sustrans Scotland have shared statistics that participants in the challenge helped to achieve. These include:

  • 75,000kg of carbon emissions saved
  • 10.5 million calories burnt
  • Just under £90,000 of journey costs saved

2019 was the biggest so far for the challenge, which has just been shortlisted for the 2019 Scottish Transport Award in Best Practice in Travel to School and Work Schemes.

Just because the challenge is over it doesn’t mean that support to travel sustainably stops. The Sustrans Scotland website has support to cycle and walk. Or why not find out what your local Climate Challenge Fund project offers through a search on our online map of projects?

And it doesn’t stop there. A new website is launching soon for workplaces in Scotland to support staff to travel more actively and sustainably. The 'Way to Work' website will make it easier to identify funding, training, advice and activities for your workplace, and to find the best solutions to transform commuting and business journeys in your organisation. Way to Work will showcase information, inspiring case studies and the latest news from nine active and sustainable travel organisations, signposting directly to their own websites for more information. Register your interest now to gain early access to the website.
