Host a Carbon Literacy for Communities course

Host a course

We are offering the chance for community-led organisations to host a Carbon Literacy course in 2019/20. In order to take up this offer all we ask is you provide the venue and guarantee a minimum ten participants from at least two community-led organisations in your area.

If you're hosting within the central belt we may also ask that you make spaces available for people from other organisations to attend. Invitations from hosts will be considered on a first-come first-served basis, taking into consideration the need to ensure geographical spread.

About the training

The two-day Carbon Literacy for Communities course aims to get you up to speed with the science behind climate change and likely impacts, but more importantly it will build your confidence to speak about climate change and identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in your community.

Since starting to offer Scotland's first ever accredited Carbon Literacy training course for communities, over 200 attendees from the Hebrides to the Scottish Borders have been certified as Carbon Literate.

The training is free to attend for representatives of any Scottish-based community led organisation interested in tackling climate change.

We organise the training as part of our management of the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund which is supporting community-led projects to reduce local carbon emissions, improve their areas and help them to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The training is accredited by the award winning Carbon Literacy Project, run by the Manchester-based charity The Carbon Literacy Trust. On completion of the two-day course you will have the opportunity to go forward for an assessment and, if successful, will certified as Carbon Literate. There is a small fee (£10 +VAT) for these certificates.

The next course takes place in Arisaig on 3-4 April, but is now fully booked. More training dates for 2019/20 will be published on the CCF website events section from April 2019.

If you are interested in hosting a Carbon Literacy course please get in touch with Capacity Building Officer Claire Gibson: claire.gibson@keepscotlandbeautiful.org or 01786 468772.
