Could you offer two hours of time to support the design of a Pocket Garden?
The One Planet Picnic Pocket Garden Design Competition 2019 is a schools competition run in partnership by Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Garden for Life Forum. Winners show their gardens in the Garden for Life area of Gardening Scotland. Competition themes celebrate Scotland’s landscape by linking plants and place with water and our changing climate.
This year, schools can build a rain garden for sustainable drainage, a drought tolerant garden, a wetland or fresh water margin garden or a coastal garden. Using principles for sustainability, judges are looking for gardens that are good for wildlife, have food for people and that can adapt and survive our changing climate.
Keep Scotland Beautiful are looking for volunteer mentors to offer up to two hours of time to support schools to participate in the competition. This could involve telephone advice, visiting the school, supplying plants, or assisting with design.
The design phase of the competition runs from 18 January to 8 February. Winning entries will be built between 20 February and 20 May.
Schools have received this Competition Brochure at the beginning of January. For an example of what we are looking for, have a look at entries from the 2018 competition and this article in 2018 Caledonian Gardener magazine
