Programme for Government for 2019-20

On 3 September The Scottish Government published its Programme for Government for 2019-20: Protecting Scotland’s Future.

The Programme for Government sets out some of the next steps on Scotland’s journey to net zero emissions and raises ambition in light of the emergency we face.

Chapter One, Ending Scotland's Contribution to Climate Change, mentions the Climate Challenge Fund, the Big Climate Conversation and plans to hold the UNFCCC COP26 in Glasgow.

We will also publish the outcome of the review of our Climate Challenge Fund and our plans for evolving the Fund to support communities to tackle climate change.

We will use the information from the Big Climate Conversation to help us update our statutory Climate Change Behaviours Framework. It will provide guidance on the behaviour changes the Committee on Climate Change is clear that we will all need to make to help Scotland reach net zero. The new framework will be published in 2020.

The UK Government announced on 9 September that, if it is successful in its bid to host the international climate negotiations, UNFCCC COP26, in December 2020, the host city will be Glasgow.

Keep Scotland Beautiful looks forward to working with the Scottish Government to deliver the Climate Challenge Fund, Eco-Schools Scotland and Climate Ready classrooms and to continuing to support individuals, businesses, communities and schools in making the transition to a low carbon future.
