Gretna Gateway supports roadside litter campaign
Campaign materials will be displayed prominently in the car parks to remind customers with litterbug tendencies to ensure that any packaging and other potential litter items taken off the premises are disposed of correctly, rather than discarded by the roadside.
The outlet village has also offered to host some monitoring and surveying work, giving us the opportunity to talk to customers about the issue directly and hear their views.
Gretna Gateway Outlet Village’s marketing manager, Lisa McNab, said, “As one of the most popular stops on the route to North West Scotland, it is really important to us to give a good impression to the tourists passing through as well as people from the local area.
“By supporting the charity’s campaign, we will be encouraging shoppers to use ours bins on the mall and in our car parks or if they forget to dispose of it before they leave Gretna Gateway, to wait until they find a bin. Plus, during our summer events we will also be giving out free car stickers and air fresheners as well as mini bin pocket ashtrays to pop in the car whilst shoppers travel.”
Our Campaign Officer Georgina Massouraki commented: “We’re delighted that Gretna Gateway is getting behind our campaign to encourage road users to give their litter a lift and take it home. Scotland is a beautiful country. But with 88% of Scottish adults agreeing that roadside litter creates a negative impression more needs to be done. We need to spread the message that the unacceptable habits of a small minority of drivers who litter are ruining the view for us all.”
