Can Scotland feature in the search for the UK’s favourite green space?
The polls are now open to vote for one of Scotland’s 77 Green Flag Award winners in the UK wide People’s Choice Awards to find the public’s top 10 favourite green spaces in the UK.
Ranging from small community gardens, an NHS hospital, and a windfarm, to local authority play parks, country parks, and local nature reserves, there is a green space for everyone in this year’s list of award winners in Scotland. A full list of award winners can be found on our webpage here https://www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/community-and-place/green-flag-award/awarded-parks/.
Voting is open until 14 November with the top 10 winners announced on 23 November at a virtual awards ceremony to celebrate 25 years of Green Flag Award. To vote for your favourite, simply find it on the map at www.greenflagaward.org and click on the vote button.
Last year, Strathaven Park in South Lanarkshire placed in the UK top ten for the fifth year running and was awarded the accolade of “Scotland’s favourite park”. This year, parks stretching from the Western Isles to the Scottish Borders are all in with a chance.
Jamie Ormiston, Beaches and Parks Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful said, “Staff and volunteers working in our green spaces across the country have faced considerable challenges to keep these spaces open and welcoming to all. This year’s Green Flag Award has celebrated this hard work and shown all those involved just how important their work has been over the last year.
“Through the People’s Choice Award, we have an opportunity to continue the celebrations with every single vote translating into a thumbs up or a pat on the back for all those involved.”
