CANCELLED: Broughty Ferry beach clean planned as part of Great Global Nurdle Hunt

Residents are being encouraged to take part in a beach clean along Broughty Ferry Beach on Wednesday 18 March as part of Fidra’s annual Great Global Nurdle Hunt.

Organised in partnership with Broughty Ferry in Bloom and pupils from Grove Academy, we are encouraging people to pop down to the beach, help to remove litter and to search for small plastic pellets called Nurdles - as part of a worldwide campaign to raise awareness and build a clearer picture of nurdle pollution.

People living in and around Broughty Ferry are invited to take part and play their part in cleaning up their community as well as tackling the problems caused by nurdles.

The event will take place:

Wednesday 18 March

2pm - 4pm

Broughty Ferry Beach (meeting at the car park on Mill Street)

The Great Global Nurdle Hunt is set up and run by Fidra, an environmental charity working to reduce plastic waste and chemical pollution in our seas, on our beaches and in the wider environment.

Jasper Hamlet, Senior Project Officer at Fidra commented:

The event is also helping to raise awareness of Scotland’s Spring Clean campaign, which is taking place during April and May. With the 2019 Spring Clean attracting more than 45,000 people, Keep Scotland Beautiful is calling for even more people to register to take part in 2020, arrange their own Clean Up event and help to remove litter from our coastline, parks and public places.

“This event is a fun way to get everyone involved in keeping Broughty Ferry Beach clear of litter, alongside helping in the hunt for Nurdles. We are hoping that this helps to motivate everyone to pay even more attention to the plastic products they use, take part in keeping their community clean and adapt their littering behaviour for the good of our planet.

“With our annual Spring Clean approaching we’re hoping that events like these will encourage more people to take action and protect the places they care about.”
