Over 30,000 people take action for our Spring Clean

Our Spring Clean has seen a massive 12% uplift in participants across Scotland from last year.

The Clean Up Scotland Spring Clean, which happens over April and May, has seen an increase in both participants and events across Scotland. Communities, schools, individuals and businesses came together to tackle litter, transforming their areas and improving Scotland's environmental quality. We have had clean up events organised in every local authority in the country. We have also had a number of businesses who have organised events in their local neighbourhoods alongside their communities. The increase in events and participants show the need for clean local environments remains of paramount importance to communitites, businesses and public bodies.

From the 12-20 May we also coordinated a very successful Roadside Litter Week of Action. Read more about how communities and businesses tackled the problem here.

Greggs bakery has partnered with us for spring clean for the past five years. This year they have delivered over 12,000 treats for over 200 events across Scotland to our litter pickers.

Spring Clean Heroes Competition

To thank our supporters for their efforts we are opening a competition to celebrate out Spring Clean heroes. We'd like to ask for you to nominate individuals or groups for the four categories listed below:

  • Next generation Hero

We’re asking for a photo to be sent in of a young hero(es) with some information the individual and how the young person got involved

  • Most transformational Clean Up

We’re asking for before and after photos along with a pile of the rubbish that was collected.Or evidence of a transformational behaviour change in a community.

  •  Special Recognition award

If you have been involved or know of a group doing some you feel deserves recognition – let us know. You might have launched your own campaign and started a year-long Clean Up effort. We love hearing about what’s going on to tackle litter across Scotland. This can be a business, council, charity or community group.

  • Community Award

If you are part of or know a community group who have taken action this Spring nominate them now by emailing cleanup@keepscotlandbeautiful.org.

We will be handing out vouchers to Helping Hand Environmental for the winning individuals or groups from the categories.

We want to say thank you to everyone who took part in a Spring Clean, and to those who already have their next event organised.  If you are feeling inspired and want to take part, find out how to Organise your own Clean Up.
