Gibshill Children Centre Clean Up

As part of the Eco Schools action Plan for this year the children, parents/ carers and staff at Gibshill Childrens Centre have been participating in a Big Clean Up week, which was organised by their Eco Committee.

The children at Gibshill Childrens Centre have been very busy for Big Clean Up week. They could be seen taking action in the local community to try and improve their environmental quality. Their parents, carers and teachers all help with the Clean Up and together they managed to collect 19lbs of litter.

The chidlren have also been learning about waste collection, recycling and reducing litter. They were lucky enough to have a visit from the Street Sweeper, Jim, and Waste Strategy Officer, Angela Hughes.

The children  spent the week creating a litter poem and using their creative skills to design a poster to display in and around the community. Throughout the year they have also been collecting milk cartons and this week we finished building our Eco-Igloo for the children to explore and play in. This has taught children about recycling and reusing materials, they used over 600 milk cartons!

Take a look at their poem here.

We'd like to encourage all schools and groups to take action over our Spring Clean in April and May. Anyone can take part in a Clean Up – find out how to start out on your own #2MinuteCleanUp, or if you are ready to involve others, look into organising a Clean Up with our support.
