CleanFerry take on Clean Ups and litter prevention

As part of our Litter Pick Plus project, we worked with two groups to support them in the development of their local Clean Up campaign. CleanFerry, a newly re-established group in South Queensferry, is featured below.

CleanFerry operates under the GreenFerry Trust, aiming to reduce the amount of litter and waste in South Queensferry, inspire others to take action and to raise awareness of the littering issue.

In 2009, the group won a Keep Scotland Beautiful Award for organising the biggest clean-up in Scotland with over 1300 people taking part.   Big Clean Ups continued for three years before the group stepped back and the local schools took on their own organised Clean Ups.

However, in recent years’ members of the community identified that litter was once again becoming an issue in the village and the CleanFerry group was relaunched. After just a year of action, and using the Litterpick Plus Toolkit for guidance and inspiration, the group now has a core group of 14 volunteers, led by David Hutcheson of the GreenFerry Trust, taking regular action in the village.

To read the full story on how CleanFerry have taken action, communicated and campaigned about litter, including leader David's top tips, download the full case study here.

If you are feeling inspired and want to follow the Litter Pick Plus guidance, you can download the toolkit here.
