Quarter of a million hours logged by volunteers in 2017

During 2017 our volunteer Beautiful Scotland judges and group members, and It's Your Neighbourhood assessors and project members dedicated an overwhelming 250,000 hours to make the places they care for cleaner, greener and sustainable.

As the year draws to a close we wish to thank and celebrate the success of volunteers from all across Scotland who worked with us to support Beautiful Scotland and It's Your Neighbourhood, throughout 2017.

Both campaigns rely on the help of volunteers to undertake the long running environmental improvement campaigns, and last year volunteers contributed time worth a massive £4m to support keeping Scotland beautiful.

Now, as we enter 2018, we are encouraging even more people to get involved, young or old, to support, mentor, visit projects or start up their own project.

Juliette Camburn, Community Projects Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, commented: “We are overwhelmed with the efforts of our It's Your Neighbourhood and Beautiful Scotland volunteers in 2017. It is their commitment, enthusiasm and drive that helps to make these initiatives such a success - bringing communities together to help deliver local environmental improvements and enhancing local areas.

“In 2018 we look forward to celebrating the Year of Young People - encouraging intergenerational working and motivating more participation in our activities from people of all generations. I would like to ask everyone, from all ages to all walks of lives, to consider taking part - it’s a great way to invest in your local community and your local environment and a great way to be recognised for all your hard work.”

If you would like to volunteer as a judges or assessors you can find out more from those who are already involved and register your interest here.

Registration is also open if you wish to enter either the 2018 Beautiful Scotland competition or the It’s Your Neighbourhood campaign.
