Tribute to a Beautiful Scotland ambassador and friend
Alan volunteered with us for many years, and was dedicated to giving support, guidance and encouragement to our entrants.
A senior gardener at Aberdeen City Council, where he worked for 40 years, he was instrumental in securing Gold Medals in Beautiful Scotland for a number of years, before the City progressed to scooping Britain in Bloom titles in more recent years. Through his hard work in the parks and gardens with volunteers and staff, Aberdeen City Council scooped a Gold Medal in the RHS Champion of Champions category in 2017, following a win in the City Category and two special awards the year before.
Juliette Camburn, who worked closely with Alan said: “Alan was a quiet man but extremely knowledgeable, respected and always ready to offer advice and assistance. Right up to his untimely death he was assisting with our 2019 judges training and giving his expert guidance to support others on their journey. He was much loved by our groups, and we have received many tributes already. Alan will be sorely missed by all the staff he worked with here, and the wider Bloom family and volunteers. Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues in Aberdeen and further afield.”
Last year Alan became a UK judge for RHS Britain in Bloom, but he remained a strong supporter of our work, and in particular Beautiful Scotland.
