Sharing and inspiring Beautiful Scotland sessions
20 groups from across Scotland came together in Dundee, Uddingston and North Berwick, to learn from each other, share experiences and to hear top tips from the Beautiful Scotland judges...all in preparation for when the judges visit in August.
North Berwick in Bloom, Uddingston Pride and Bonnie Dundee hosted the three events, and delegates were treated to a walk round which highlighted the work carried out by the group under the three core pillars of the campaign - horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility, and community participation.
In 2016, the volunteer judges had highlighted which groups gave good presentations during their judging day, so delegates also heard from Kinnesswood in Bloom, Brighter Bothwell, and Coupar Angus Pride of Place.
Stan da Prato, one of our longest standing judges, shared his wealth of knowledge through a fantastic photographic presentation, highlighting what the judges will be looking for, and groups received practical advice on how to organsie a judging tour before they worked on a self-assessment workshop aimed at planning the perfect tour.
Thelma Will from Milngavie in Bloom, who attended the Uddingston get together said: "Thanks very much for your hospitality today and for the wonderful tour round your beautiful town. What a lovely place Uddingston is with its beautiful red sandstone buildings. Douglas and I enjoyed our visit today and thanks for arranging for such good weather. Your group is truly inspirational.
"It was such a useful day. Stan's input was invaluable and it was so good to hear what other groups are doing. The workshop marking our own input was a very good exercise and it has given us food for thought.
"We have come home with lots of ideas and hopefully we can reflect this in this year's competition and for the future. A lovely day. Thanks very much."
