Less than two weeks to go until the Beautiful Scotland awards ceremony

Our annual Beautiful Scotland Awards is set to take place at the St Mary’s Church in Haddington on Thursday 6 September.

We're delighted that East Lothian Council is hosting the ceremony this year. The event will celebrate the hard work of communities, local authorities and businesses from across Scotland in improving the places they care for.

Hundreds of people from across Scotland will congregate in the town to recognise the tireless efforts of communities across the country who work to clean up, green up and beautify Scotland’s villages, towns and cities.

East Lothian has played a pivotal role in the Beautiful Scotland Awards and the local authority last hosted the awards ceremony ten years ago in Musselburgh. Since 2008 five communities from across East Lothian have taken part, including Blooming Haddington, Dunbar in Bloom and North Berwick in Bloom.

Over 250 awards delegates will congregate in Haddington where they will receive tours of East Lothian’s horticultural and historical highlights - paying particular attention to East Lothian’s reputation as the food and drink county of Scotland.

East Lothian Provost, John McMillan said:

“East Lothian is very proud of its continued participation in Beautiful Scotland and its resounding success so far. Our groups of volunteers, who are supported by the council’s amenity teams, work tirelessly all year round, cultivating, nurturing and planting displays within some of our towns and villages to provide welcome splashes of colour appreciated by both local residents and visitors.

“We are very pleased to be hosting these celebrations and look forward to welcoming Keep Scotland Beautiful, and all of the Beautiful Scotland 2018 entrants to Haddington for the annual awards ceremony. We are grateful to the kirk session at St Mary’s for allowing us to use their historic kirk during Haddington’s 700th year of celebration.”
