Smith Anderson bags award

Paper bag manufacturer, Smith Anderson, has achieved the highest accolade available as part of our National Award for Environmental Excellence® - with the company receiving Gold for its continued commitment to improving local environmental quality.

The manufacturer has received the National Award for Environmental Excellence® in recognition of the company’s exceptional environmental standards across a range of areas - including waste management, sustainability practices and support of local communities.

Our auditors praised Smith Anderson’s environmental management policies and procedures, which outline achievable reduction targets. The company was also commended for its energy saving practices which resulted in reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Michael Longstaffe, Chief Executive Officer at Smith Anderson, commented: “As a family owned supply partner to the UK’s largest quick service restaurant, Smith Anderson want to be sure that we protect Scotland’s environment for the many generations to come. We are therefore delighted to be the first manufacturing company in Scotland to receive this prestigious award from Keep Scotland Beautiful which recognises our efforts.

“We will continue to work within our teams to explore how our recyclable and sustainability philosophy can continue to have a positive impact on the local environment and the local community.”

Derek Robertson, Chief Executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Keep Scotland Beautiful is working closely with businesses and organisations across Scotland, helping them take direct action to address local environmental impact. The National Award for Environmental Excellence provides an exciting opportunity to assess and reward their efforts.

“We are delighted with the high standards demonstrated by Smith Anderson. It is very important that companies accept their environmental responsibilities and Smith Anderson has set the bar particularly high for manufacturers by achieving the Gold accreditation. We look forward to working closely with Smith Anderson to continue to support and celebrate their efforts.”

Throughout Scotland, over 100 business locations, from shopping centres, leisure trusts to train stations and ports, have been audited for a National Award for Environmental Excellence®.
