Deposit return system stakeholder event

Working in partnership with Lloyds Banking Group we are hosting a stakeholder event today, 20 October, to further explore and learn how a successful deposit return system could be designed for Scotland.

The keynote address at the stakeholder event will be given by Henrik Als from Denmark.  He was involved in the design, development, implementation and operation of the Danish Deposit Return System from a technical perspective, and is now the Chief Operating Officer of Keep Denmark Tidy.

The stakeholder event will give representatives from 25 charities, businesses and government agencies the opportunity to hear first hand what it takes to go from concept to implementing a successful operating system.   Delegates will also explore some of the challenges of managing a national deposit return system and learn from Denmark's experiences.

Derek Robertson, our Chief Executive said: "Environment Secretary, Roseanna Cunningham, announced in June that design options and the costs and benefits of how a Deposit Return Scheme in Scotland could operate would be investigated. At this time we outlined that we were keen that any proposed scheme was developed through an inclusive process ensuring that all stakeholders could make a positive contribution.

"We are very grateful to Llloyds Banking Group for hosting this event at its head office on The Mound in Edinburgh, and to Henrik for taking time to come and share the lessons learned in Demark.

"We look forward to engaging in future discussions and to seeing the proposals put forward for general consultation in due course."
