Celebrating the life of our former chief

Douglas Wright MBE, former head of Keep Scotland Beautiful, and a committed environmental activist has passed away at the age of 84.

Douglas was head of our charity from 1973 for almost 20 years.  He was awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours for services to the environment in 1995.

Carole Noble, Operations Director, said "In the early 70s, Douglas came to Keep Scotland Beautiful full of new and pioneering activities.  Alongside our sister charities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as part of the Tidy Britain Group, he established many of the activities which we still run today.  His legacy remains in much of our work, including the Beautiful Scotland and community clean up campaigns and our education work and awards programmes."

He is survived by his wife May, who worked alongside Douglas at Keep Scotland Beautiful and is still an active supporter of our work.
