Vote for Your Favourite Pocket Garden
Coming soon: 2021 Pocket Garden Showcase
Vote for your favourite garden 5th to 13th June
Pocket Garden stories are starting to come in and we can't wait to share them!
Each year, we invite young people from schools across Scotland to send in their designs for a colourful and exciting pocket-sized garden. Pupils who send in the winning designs are then invited to build and grow their gardens to display.
Usually the winning gardens are built for display at Gardening Scotland, but this year our Pocket Garden Display is online and we need you to help us choose a winner! Vote for your favourite garden from 5th to 13th June 2021.
A Pocket Garden is a miniature garden that uses edible plants, plants that attract wildlife, and that reuses something which would otherwise have been thrown away. The 2021 Year of Coasts and Waters is one of the competition themes this year together with Celebrating Nature on Your Doorstep, and Wildlife Gardening.
Throughout lockdown, many of us rediscovered the joy of growing something and noticing the natural world on our doorsteps. This year the Pocket Garden Design Competition builds on those positive experiences, linking garden design with health and hope for the future.
Designs include windmills, painted stones, bird feeders, bug hotels, willow weaving, murals, mosaics and so many colourful plants!
You can see the finished gardens in our Pocket Garden Showcase starting Saturday 5th June. You can also find instructions on how to build a Pocket Garden at home or at school for a wonderful interdisciplinary project with your class or youth group.
Our sincere thanks to all young people and educators who have taken the time to build their Pocket Gardens and share their stories with us this year.
