Food waste: enemy or energy?
As food waste rots in landfill it releases greenhouse gases such as methane into our atmosphere. As these greenhouse gases build up in our atmosphere they are causing our planet to warm and our climate to change.
But is there a way to stop our food waste turning bad? The best thing we can do is not waste food at all, but some food waste, like skins of fruits, can't be avoided. Simply pop these items in your food waste bin or caddy so that's it's collected and can be converted into green energy or fertiliser for our farms.
Greener Scotland have released a video titled 'Don't let your food turn bad' to explain the impact of food waste and how to help tackle it. We encourage Climate Challenge Fund projects to share the video with their communities.
