Green Flag Award 2021 Applications Open
Celebrating the hard work of staff and volunteers across a wide range of parks and green spaces, the Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised standard in green space management.
With the coronavirus pandemic highlighting the importance of accessible green spaces, especially with travel restrictions forcing us all to make the most of our local area, the Green Flag Award offers support and advice to improve these spaces with assessments and reports coming from our green space management experts from across the country.
Judges assess sites in 27 different criteria across eight areas, including Environmental Management, Biodiversity, Landscape and Heritage, and Community Involvement. This provides flexibility for all sites, no matter their size, to receive constructive feedback to continuously improve the area for everyone.
Our Beaches & Parks Officer, Jamie Ormiston said ’We know people value their local green spaces however over the last year we have seen the pandemic have a huge impact on the environment. We see the Green Flag Award as not only a way to celebrate these essential spaces but also support and advise those managing them to promote our #greenrecovery.’
‘With over 2,000 parks awarded in 2020 across the UK, people look for the Green Flag Award as a sign of quality when visiting a park or green space. By getting involved, you will be able to promote your site to a wider audience as well as show your appreciation for everyone doing their bit to keep our green spaces beautiful.’
