Two of our Beautiful Scotland stalwarts on New Year's Honours list

Two of our Beautiful Scotland champions recognised in the New Year's Honours list

Mark Jardine from The People's Project in Dumfries, and Andrew Hogarth from East Lothian Council have both been awarded in the 2020 New Year's Honours list.

Mark, who is in the left hand photo, was recognised with an MBE for his services to the communities in Dumfries and Galloway. Mark, founder of The People's Project which inspires environmental improvements across Dumfries and pulls the community together, has helped bring success for the Town over the year's in our Beautiful Scotland Awards. Mark was also heavily involved in supporting and ensuring that the 2019 Beautiful Scotland Award Ceremony, hosted by the council in partnership with The People's Project, was such a successful event.

Mark said: “I am humbled and surprised to be given this award. You do not do these things for yourself but for the greater good of the town, for everybody, to help make Dumfries a better place to live and work, to attract visitors and to help local businesses. It is an honour to get recognition for what you do and it is going to make me more determined than ever to do what I can for Dumfries and the community."

Andrew, in the middle of the right hand photo, received a BEM for his services to parks and biodiversity in East Lothian. Andrew has worked for East Lothian Council for 37 years and is one of their Area Amenity Officers. Andrew has been a volunteer Beautiful Scotland judge for us for many years, supporting, encouraging and celebrating the achievements of communities across Scotland. He also provides a lot of help, guidance and assistance to Beautiful Scotland entrants from East Lothian, going above and beyond to ensure they feel confident and ready for when the judges visit. You can find out more about Andrew on our judges page here.

Andrew said: "It was a great surprise and not something that is really on your radar! My award was for services to parks and biodiversity in East Lothian."

Our congratulations to both Mark and Andrew on this well deserved recognition.
