Keep Scotland Beautiful welcomes new Environment Strategy
The Scottish Government has this week published its new Environment Strategy for Scotland, setting out its long-term, over-arching vision for the future of Scotland’s environment.
The strategy also sets out how Scotland will address the twin climate and nature crises currently facing the world, by ending Scotland’s contribution to climate change by 2045 and acting to restore and protect our biodiversity and natural environment.
We welcome the new strategy and we are eager to play our part in helping achieve its ambitious vision and outcomes – though we would also like to highlight the key role that people and positive behaviour change will have to play in achieving these outcomes. We will continue to raise awareness and appreciation of Scotland’s biodiversity through our work with Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood, while with our climate change activities, in particular our Carbon Literacy training, we will equip people across Scotland with the knowledge and skills they need to play their part in helping us achieve our emissions reduction targets.
Through our campaigns, we will work to end our throwaway culture and turn the Strategy’s third outcome, around the sustainable use of natural resources, into reality. Finally, our educational activities, including Eco-Schools and Climate Ready Classrooms, will help make sure our children and young people grow up with a strong understanding of the value and beauty of Scotland’s unique natural environment, as well as how we can respond to the threats it faces.
