Call out for supporters for the national Spring Clean!

We have partnered with Scotmid Cooperative for this year's national Spring Clean.

Our national Spring Clean takes place every year in April and May. This year we are partnering with community retailer Scotmid Co-operative to make it the most successful yet!

Throughout April and May, we are encouraging local residents, businesses, schools and community groups to arrange their own Clean Up events to remove rubbish from local streets, parks and public areas.

Last year more than 30,000 people the length and breadth of Scotland participated in the annual Spring Clean Campaign - helping to remove more than 300 tonnes of litter - the equivalent of three blue whales or 50 elephants.

The Spring Clean campaign is a key part of the wider Clean Up Scotland campaign, which has been led by Keep Scotland Beautiful since 2012.

Derek Robertson, Chief Executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, commented:

“Keep Scotland Beautiful is calling for people across the country to take part in our annual Spring Clean campaign. Every April and May thousands of volunteers take to the streets and remove a significant amount of litter from their local communities.

“We are very proud of everyone’s hard work and hope that everyone will take part - helping to make 2019 the most successful Spring Clean campaign to date.”

In 2019, many Scotmid stores from Brechin to Dumfries will be transformed into community hubs - providing guidance and clean up campaign materials.

Shirley MacGillivray, Scotmid Deputy Secretary, said:

"Scotmid are really excited about supporting Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Spring Clean campaign – the initiative matches our core values and principles as a responsible community retailer.

“As a co-operative, our main purpose is to serve communities and improve people’s everyday lives and, by reducing the amount of litter, we can take a positive step towards achieving those goals.

“We acknowledge that achieving a cleaner Scotland will be a real team effort, which is why we’re proud that our stores will host hubs to enable our members, staff and customers to organise litter-picks in their local communities.

“Scotmid are committed to helping Keep Scotland Beautiful to achieve a cleaner and more beautiful Scotland.”

Special thank you to our BeautifulScotland groups - Uddingston Pride, Brighter Bothwell and Bonnie Blantyre for helping with organising the event and for the wonderful teas and cakes afterwards! We definitely needed it!
