Telling the story of Cumbernauld Village
We are looking to discover and document the history and heritage of Cumbernauld Village.
In partnership with Cumbernauld Old Parish Church and thanks to funding from Historic Environment Scotland, are calling on local people to help build up a picture about the history of the buildings and life in the village and how this has changed over the years. Once collated, these will then be submitted to local and national archives to create a permanent record for future generations.
Lisa Snedden Heritage Officer, said: “To get started we need to hear from as many people as possible who have photos or stories to tell about the history of Cumbernauld Village. We would love to learn more about the buildings and what life was like in the village in years gone by.
“This is a great opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and dig through the old photo albums, whether you live in the village or not
“This is phase one of our planned work in the village, and we hope to follow this with face-to-face activities, including graveyard recording and working with local community groups, once Covid restrictions allow.”
We are also looking for volunteers who may be able to give some time to help collate the information and submit to the archives.
