Share your views on how to make North Ayrshire cleaner

We're supporting North Ayrshire Council with a review and update of its existing Litter, Flytipping and Dog Fouling Prevention Strategy and are jointly calling for people to contribute their views by completing a short survey, or attending an upcoming consultation event.

An initial workshop for councillors and senior staff took place in March to explore the national and local context, to consider key aspects of the current strategy, review how it has been delivered over the past decade and identify future priorities and opportunities for improvement.

A public engagement process is now taking place to assess the situation across North Ayrshire and capture views from local communities - from Kilwinning to Arran.

Initially people are being urged to complete an online survey hosted by Keep Scotland Beautiful in relation to litter, flytipping and dog fouling issues in North Ayrshire.

Paul Wallace, our Campaigns and Social Innovation Manager commented, “We know that 85% of people across Scotland want to see more activity to prevent litter in their area.  Our work with North Ayrshire Council will help us to understand the local issues and give people a chance to suggest solutions and play their part in tackling the national litter emergency. 

“We want to hear your views so we can continue to find new ways to engage and inspire people and work collaboratively to reverse the data trends and tackle the behaviours driving the litter crisis.”

Later this month details will also be shared about further community engagement events that will focus on the challenges and priorities for specific areas across North Ayrshire.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy at North Ayrshire Council, said: “This survey offers a great opportunity for people across North Ayrshire to share their views on litter and litter issues that are important to them.

“I would encourage people in our communities to speak up now and get involved. It is important that we hear from as many people as possible as we continue to work hard to ensure that North Ayrshire is an attractive place for people to live and work – and to visit.”
