Conscious Consumption exhibition travels to Ullapool
30 May 2024
Lochbroom and Ullapool Community Trust headed to the Macphail Centre in Ullapool this week to set up the second installation of the Highland Community Waste Partnership (HCWP) Conscious Consumption exhibition.
The touring exhibition, which aims to encourage visitors to reduce waste and explore sustainable alternatives to disposables, was previously hosted by the West Highland Museum in Fort William.
The exhibition features information, artefacts, demonstrations, activities, media and testimonials from across the partnership. It provides an overview of our work across our three key waste reduction themes; food waste and composting, share and repair and single use items and packaging. Each HCWP partner that hosts the exhibition in their area also tailors the exhibition to showcase local waste reduction initiatives.
The exhibition was brought together under the banner of our Conscious Consumption campaign, which launched at the end of the year. The campaign aims to raise awareness around the way that we consume, the choices available to us and what we can all do to reduce the amount or resources that we use and waste, through our daily habits.
Becky Thomson, Macphail Centre Manager, said:
"We are delighted to host this exhibition. It backs up the very good work that has been done locally to encourage people not to be wasteful and to save resources. There are many good tips on avoiding food waste and reusing many items, especially clothes. Of particular interest is a “visibly mended” jumper which looks so good it could be a designer item! I hope people will take a moment to pop into the Macphail and to see it and make a pledge in the in the book.”
The HCWP Conscious Consumption exhibition, which is free to visit, will be in place at the Macphail Centre until July 2024.
If you are interested in hosting the exhibition in your space, please get in touch.
