Craft workshops in Thurso to make use of local sheep wool
Thurso Community Development Trust (CDT), partner of the Highland Community Waste Partnership (HCWP), have created the Cycle of Wool -a series of workshops designed to teach skills to create clothes and home textiles from sheep wool, a resource abundant locally but often discarded as a by-product of sheep farming.
The aim of The Cycle of Wool is to attract more interest in the sheep wool industry in the Highlands and work towards decentralizing natural fibre production and dye processes to strengthen local economic opportunities and promote the mental well-being of participants.
Following on from a Natural Dye Foraging Walk in June, Thurso CDT have invited local crafters to share a wealth of knowledge and skills with participants and raise awareness about waste generated within agricultural and textile industries. The following workshops can be booked via the links below:
- Fabric Dyeing Workshop using Natural Dyes 14 Sept 2024
- Wool Spinning Workshop 28 Sept 2024
- Wool Weaving Workshop 29 Sept 2024
- Sheep Fleece leaning and Prepping Autumn 2024
- Crocheting Training Course Oct-Dec 2024
- Knitting Training Course Jan 2024
