Thousands of pupils enjoy Spring Clean Live Lessons

Litter discussed in schools as part of Spring Clean Scotland
Thousands of pupils across the country took part in our online Live Lessons on litter and waste this week as part of our Spring Clean Scotland campaign.
A total of 654 schools registered for the Live Lessons with more than 5,000 pupils attending across every local authority area.
As part of the annual Spring Clean Scotland a series of lessons were held - one each morning - open to all ages, to inspire pupils to take part in the annual campaign and join the fight against litter.
The first lesson shared the history of spring cleaning, what it means today and why we need to Spring Clean Scotland every year. The next lesson focused on the impact of litter on wildlife.
On the third day pupils were joined by Play Scotland’s Jenny Lester who talked about games, the wonders and history of playing, and why we really need to look after our playgrounds and parks.
The fourth lesson focused on the three Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle – and the little and big things everyone can do to help keep Scotland beautiful, before a final lesson reflected on the work of schools across the country.
Andrea Gabriel, our Eco-Schools Scotland Coordinator, said: “Once again we were delighted with the brilliant level of engagement across our week of Live Lessons on litter.
“We know from the previous year’s how much pupils enjoy these lessons and it’s excellent to see such strong levels of engagements during this year’s Spring Clean Scotland campaign.
“By teaching young people about litter and the issues it can cause to our environment it provides them with the information needed to make the right decisions and take positive actions.
“We all have a part to play in keeping Scotland beautiful and I’d like to thank every pupil, teacher and school for getting involved and being so responsive and engaging.”
