We've achieved Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation status

16 June 2023

We've become the first in Scotland to achieve Platinum status as a Carbon Literate Organisation from the Carbon Literacy Project.

Our ambition is to make Scotland Climate Literate and, since pioneering Climate Emergency Training in Scotland in 2016, we've worked across sectors and subjects to help individuals, businesses, organisations, teachers and young people to understand the Climate Emergency, inspiring appropriate and practical action.

Dave Coleman, Managing Director of the Carbon Literacy Project, said: “Since 2016 Keep Scotland Beautiful has been instrumental in paving the way for a Carbon Literate Scotland.

“Almost 6,000 learners have now become formally certified as Carbon Literate as a result of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Climate Emergency Training - and this means almost 10% of the global total of 63,000+ Carbon Literate learners are based in Scotland and have been trained by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

“We are delighted to recognise the scale of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s impact and achievement with a Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) award, the highest level of our organisational accreditation scheme, and we look forward to continuing our work together to inspire people across Scotland to take meaningful action on climate change.”

Catherine Gee, our Deputy CEO, said: “A transition to Net Zero by 2045 is an integral aspect of creating a sustainable future for us all.  As an environmental charity, we aim to lead by example, encouraging others to follow and learn from our transition to becoming a Net Zero organisation and our ambition to achieve this by 2030.

“Achieving the highest level of accreditation - Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation – where over 80% #TeamKSBScot is formally accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project and recognising the significant role we have played in growing the carbon literate population of Scotland, is a key part of our own Net Zero journey.

“As the official partner in Scotland for the award-winning Carbon Literacy Project, and the only Carbon Literate Training Organisation in Scotland, it is fitting that we are now celebrating the additional achievement of our own organisational Platinum status - helping us demonstrate that we are the ‘go to’ people for anyone interested in bringing Carbon Literacy to the workplace as part of their net zero transition.”
