Strategic engagement and working collaboratively
Following sustained action over the last 6 months in collaboration with ASH Scotland and Marine Conservation Society, and the influencing work of Laura Young, we were pleased to see that the long-awaited Review into the Impacts of Disposable Vapes commissioned by Scottish Government was published by Zero Waste Scotland.
We’ve seen an increased number of Parliamentary Motions celebrating the work of #TeamKSBScot across our operational remit including for work in schools, our campaigning work, work with communities, and Scotland’s Beach Awards.
Developing and engaging with policy
We were pleased to host a Beach Clean at Crammond Beach to highlight the issues of marine pollution to members of the CPG. Our secretariat support for the Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group on Circular Economy continues, and we look forward to a new schedule of events and topics once Parliament returns in September following recess.
Through our wide network we continue to influence and inspire across our key strategic objectives: combat climate change, tackle litter and waste, restore nature and biodiversity, and improve those places we care about. We were pleased to see the National Litter and Flytipping Strategy published, along with the Action Plan for Year 1 of implementation.
Demonstrating expertise and credibility
Our internal project to update position statements continues, refreshing these allows for the findings of key international publications such as the IPCC’s Sixth Synthesis Report and recommendations made by the Climate Change Committee to be included.
With a refreshed commitment to Net Zero, work is ongoing internally to expand our Scope 3 monitoring and reporting, and to establish a science based target aligned to the requirements of the SBTi.
We’ve become the only Platinum accredited Carbon Literate Organisation in Scotland – awarded by the Carbon Literacy Project. This platinum status reflects the scale of impact and achievement we’ve had across Scotland; 10% of the 63,000+ global Carbon Literate learners are based in Scotland.
