Monthly climate cafés hosted in Inverness
27 June 2023
Velocity café & Bicycle Workshop, of the Highland Community Waste Partnership (HCWP), now host monthly climate cafés in Inverness!
A climate café is a community-led, inclusive and inspiring space to get together, share ideas, information and get involved in climate action locally. Climate cafés are relaxed and informal, so you should be able to just drop in, have a cuppa, and a chat – just like any café! It is a space where everyone gets to contribute and the conversation moves through the topics people are interested in. Expect the chat to be wide ranging, with a positive focus on what we can do!
Velocity Cafe & Bicycle Workshop has guest speakers regularly and different themed nights, some examples include sustainable travel and transport, community growing and food, tool libraries and repair cafés, adaptation, etc.
HCWP Project Officer, Isabel, from Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop said: "Our climate cafés have been a real success and it is lovely to see people come back each month as well as lots of new faces!"
"The feedback I've had so far from our climate cafés is that people love hearing from local organisations and finding out first hand about how they can be more involved!"
"After the community growing and food themed climate café, a group of five staff from a local hostel now volunteer with a community growing group. They have shared about how great it's been to do something positive locally as well as giving them a social activity they can do together outside of work".
