Dog fouling and graffiti photos wanted
18 January 2023
We are collecting hundreds of photos of dog fouling and graffiti and looking for more. This is for an exciting project trialling the use of machine learning in monitoring litter and local environmental quality.
Working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, we were selected by The Alan Turing Institute for a project looking at tackling litter using machine learning. We hope to understand if artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to analyse images of litter and improve data collection during litter surveys. We will also investigate how data science can enable local authorities to better understand litter patterns in public spaces.
For this trial we are using hundreds of images of dog fouling and graffiti. If you are happy to contribute photos we’d love to include them in our project. We are looking for photos of dog fouling, unbagged and bagged, and incidents of graffiti in outdoor environments. They cannot have any peoples faces or recognisable features in though (addresses, registration plates etc.). If you have any photos that fit, please send them to leq@keepscotlandbeautiful.org by the end of January. Thank you for any contributions!
