Cruse Scotland staff become Carbon Literate
04 December 2023
We’re delighted to congratulate 17 staff from bereavement support charity Cruse Scotland who have participated in our Accredited Climate Emergency Training and gained Carbon Literate certification.
Our Climate Emergency Training is accredited by the award-winning Carbon Literacy Project and, following completion of the course, participants can submit an assessment with actions to reduce carbon emissions - demonstrating their learning and understanding of greenhouse gas emission sources and solutions. Those who pass receive Carbon Literate certification from the Carbon Literacy Project.
Staff from Cruse Scotland pledged actions including moving to more sustainable travel options, shifting to digital training resources, plus organisation-wide initiatives to identify sources of greenhouse gases and ways to reduce them.
Catherine Gee, our Deputy Chief Executive, said: "We congratulate the 17 learners from Cruse Scotland who achieved Carbon Literate certification through participation in our Climate Emergency Training, which is fully accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project.
"Through our Climate Emergency Training we want to create a Carbon Literate Scotland to help combat climate change and ensure that businesses, organisations and individuals across the country can respond successfully to the risks, responsibilities and opportunities ahead.
"We are delighted to have trained almost 10% of the citizens certified as Carbon Literate worldwide, and it’s fantastic to see representatives from Cruse Scotland join our journey towards a Carbon Literate Scotland."
Cruse Scotland has been supporting bereaved adults, children and young people across Scotland for more than 60 years. Together with their 230-strong team of compassionate, committed and caring volunteers, they offer hope when the future seems empty.
Fiona Arnott-Barron, Chief Executive of Cruse Scotland, said: "The Climate Emergency Training helped build our understanding of the carbon impacts of our choices at work and in our personal lives, as well as practical action we can take.
"The training also highlighted parallels with our bereavement activities, as like bereavement, climate change will impact all of us, yet there is hope as a positive future is in reach."
Thousands of representatives from businesses and organisations across Scotland have become Carbon Literate through our Accredited Climate Emergency Training, and we are delighted to have recently expanded our range of courses.
