Keep Scotland Beautiful tackle litter

We took part in a staff litter pick at our new office base at Castle Business Park in Stirling on 12 April.

We promote, support and educate on environmental improvements, litter-busting activities and events, including litter picks, in communities throughout Scotland. Following a pandemic-influenced period of home working, we moved into new offices at Castle Business Park this year and hybrid working commenced on 1 April.

From the cycle path and surrounding area behind the business park, we collected 15 bags of litter. Some of the more unusual finds included seven tyres, a wheelbarrow, a microwave, a child’s scooter, a plastic Christmas tree, Chrismas lights and decorations including an inflatable Santa, paint, cement, two bike frames, two schoolbags, a paddling pool and a ten pound note.

The litter pick was part of our national Spring Clean campaign, which was launched by us, Circular Economy Minister Lorna Slater and Historic Environment Scotland on 18 March at Blackness Castle in Linlithgow. The four weeks of litter-busting action, focusing on cleaning up Scotland, run until 21 April. Stirling organisations including Go Forth Stirling have pledged their support and we are calling for everyone up and down Scotland to join in.

Our research has revealed that 88% of Scots agree that litter is a problem across Scotland – and 70% are concerned about litter in their area. For those frustrated by litter in the community or the places they visit, the focused week of action as part of Spring Clean Scotland is the perfect opportunity to make a difference by picking up litter. Get involved until 21 April and help make the places we care about cleaner and safer for people and animals.

“Litter is a growing problem across Scotland and it’s everyone’s responsibility to help keep the areas where they live and work clean and safe. The same goes for the KSB team. We want to look after the surroundings of our new office, which is a fantastic place to work, and the wider area of Stirling. We have been based in the county for the last 30 years and feel fortunate to be part of such a beautiful and thriving area, at the centre of Scotland.

“Following the challenges of the last two years, when we moved office we chose to adopt a new hybrid way of working, and our office reflects more modern, sustainable and flexible ways of working, allowing us to be responsive to changing needs and protect the environment by reducing car travel. It was great to see the team out litter picking today, reflecting our values as a charity.”
