Two Scottish groups join line-up for Britain in Bloom finals

We are celebrating the success of Beautiful Scotland groups, North Berwick in Bloom and Burgh Beautiful Linlithgow, for being selected as Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom finalists - in recognition of their tireless efforts to deliver environmental improvements in their local area.
The two groups will join 45 others from across the UK to compete across eight categories to be selected as the cleanest, greenest and most beautiful place in the UK.
North Berwick in Bloom and Burgh Beautiful Linlithgow were the two Scottish entrants selected as Britain in Bloom finalists, following their success at the Beautiful Scotland Awards last year.
Beautiful Scotland, which we run in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), brings communities together to help clean up and beautify the places that matter to them. It recognises the efforts of volunteers across Scotland as they work to enhance their own community, creating more sustainable neighbourhoods for people, places and wildlife.
Juliette Camburn, Community Projects Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We are delighted that North Berwick in Bloom and Burgh Beautiful Linlithgow have reached the 2022 RHS Britain in Bloom finals. This announcement provides another opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of groups across Scotland who all make a significant contribution towards helping to improve their local environments.
“Together with the RHS, we have supported the work of these communities to make the places they love – be it a city, town or village – clean, green and sustainable and it’s wonderful to see them compete at a UK level. We wish the two Scottish finalists the very best of luck.”
Libby Morris, Chair of North Berwick in Bloom, said: “We are delighted to be one of two Scottish entries into the RHS Britain in Bloom competition for 2022. The challenges of the last two years brought out the best in our community, and many different organisations worked together to make our town look beautiful and cared for. We know that we can count on their support again as we make plans for this summer, and we all look forward to welcoming the judging team and showing them our town. It is a huge privilege to be chosen to represent Scotland, particularly in the Jubilee year, and we will do our best to impress the judges.”
Ron Smith, Convenor of Burgh Beautiful Linlithgow, said, “We will be delighted to showcase all our floral displays, public art, environmental work and community involvement to the Britain in Bloom judges when they visit this summer, especially as we will be one of only two finalists representing Scotland. This year, we have been promised more help from West Lothian Council and we feel confident that the whole community will be very much behind our entry.”
Now in its 58th year, the nationwide competition pits rural villages, urban areas and city centres against one another across a range of criteria that includes horticultural know-how, community engagement, efforts to bolster biodiversity and climate change adaptation. All entrants will be scored by a team of RHS national judges in August. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in October.
