A newly expanded Climate Emergency Toolkit for youth workers.
23 February 2022
We are delighted to release a new and expanded Climate Emergency Toolkit for youth workers.
The toolkit is designed to support youth workers, and all those working with young people, as they help them understand the climate emergency and empower them to take positive action. It has been designed and updated in partnership with YouthLink Scotland as part of the COP26 Youth Climate Programme funded by the Scottish Government. We are thrilled to re-launch the toolkit as part of the legacy celebrations of this programme.
The toolkit includes activities to help young people learn about and discuss the impact of our choices on the climate, environment, and on people. The activities also introduce opportunities for young people to find out more and take positive action to tackle climate change.
There are a variety of activities, games and resources for a range of ages and abilities. The activities support learning to take place through facilitated discussions, interactive exercises, games and films, with most sessions having in-person and online delivery options. Each activity highlights its links with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Youth Work Outcomes as well as suggesting appropriate age ranges, the time required and further resources.
The toolkit should prove useful in many youth work settings, but particularly for youth workers who have completed the free Climate Emergency Training for Youth Workers course, also part of the COP26 Youth Climate Programme.
Activities are organised into five sections with the first covering climate change generally, and the four following sections focussing on the themes of food, travel, energy and waste.
We understand that climate change can feel overwhelming, so we have designed this toolkit to help youth workers navigate young people through the jargon to find positive steps they can take to make a difference. Explore the activities on our toolkit webpage.
