Working to build Community Clean Up Hubs in Glasgow ahead of COP 26

07 September 2021

We've teaming up with Glasgow City Council and McDonald’s to set up brand new Community Clean Up Hubs across the city.

The new groups will join an existing network of over 30 hubs set up across Scotland in 2020. All hubs will receive equipment to carry out litter picks, including sticks, gloves, bag-hoops and hi-vis vests. Through these hubs, we're striving to empower communities who are frustrated by litter which worsened during lockdown.

Councillor Anna Richardson, City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction, said: “There is no doubt Glasgow would be a much tidier place if everyone put their litter in a bin in the first place. But the community hubs and the volunteers they will support can play an important part in helping to protect the city’s environment.”

Barry Fisher, our CEO said: “These hubs will empower communities to tackle the litter, which we know worsened during lockdowns, in their own neighbourhoods and will support efforts across our country to clean up Scotland.”

Andy Gibson, McDonald’s Franchisee in Glasgow said: “Our teams help tackle litter every day in areas surrounding our stores. But we want to do more, and with COP26 on the horizon, I believe the business community can help drive positive change ahead of the conference.

Are you interested in becoming one of our Community Clean Up Hubs? The kit we provide will be yours to keep and your group and the hub will be promoted on our Clean Up Scotland map so others can get involved in cleaning up.

To be a host you need to:

  • Have an area to store the equipment
  • Be able to advise other groups and individuals nearby with litter picking
  • Be comfortable with sanitising the equipment between uses
  • Be happy to have your group listed on an updated Clean Up Scotland map as a ‘community hub’ for others to see and get in touch with.

At the moment we are looking for groups to express an interest by the end of September. Please email
