The judges are in town

It’s judging fortnight for the 49 community groups who have entered this year’s Beautiful Scotland competition.

These passionate and dedicated groups have been busy pruning and planting, watering and weeding to make their community look beautiful. After working hard all year round, this is the moment the groups have been waiting for.

Now in its 52nd year, Beautiful Scotland celebrates and supports the achievements of communities who have come together to make lasting improvements to their village, town or city.

Over the next two weeks, our volunteer judges will travel the length and breadth of Scotland, from Bervie to Bute, and will be eager to be impressed by the efforts of local communities in relation to three pillars: horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation.

Each community will be hoping to pick up an award in one of the many categories – ranging from Best Wee Village to New Entrant trophy.

This year’s theme is the ‘Year of Young People 2018’ and, to get them started, each group received a packet of sunflower seeds. We’re looking forward to seeing how the theme has inspired the groups to get creative.

Good luck to all our entrants! The winners will be announced at a special award ceremony hosted by  East Lothian Council in Haddington on 6 September.
