Schools support Week of Action on Roadside Litter

As part of a national Week of Action on Roadside Litter, schools from across the country have entered a caption competition to ‘give their litter a voice’ and remind road users to take personal responsibility for their litter.

Almost 70 schools have signed up for the Week of Action running 12-20 May, with submissions judged in categories P1-3 and P4-7.  We are inviting the public to help us select the winners by voting for entries on our social media channels this week.

Georgina Massouraki, Roadside Litter Campaign Officer, commented:

We have been very impressed by thoughtfulness and creativity of all the entries, and this has made a tough job of shortlisting our finalists.

We feel that the entries selected combine a genuine understanding of the topic as well as original and creative messaging and design, truly giving their litter a voice.

With 73% of people believing that there has been no improvement in roadside litter levels in the past few years, it is now more important than ever to raise awareness of the issue and all work together to have an impact

We have been delighted with the uptake of this competition by schools and the opportunity to engage young people with these topics both through our classroom activity and other actions. Well done to everyone involved!

The finalists for both categories will be announced during the Week of Action, 12-20 May, with the winning entries being incorporated into our future campaign messaging. To keep up with all campaign activity, keep an eye on our Roadside Litter campaign page.
