Resources from Zero Waste Scotland
Zero Waste Scotland have produced a number of useful resources which are available on their website. These include a guide on the processes of procuring a Building Management System (BMS) and support services, a tool for those wishing to improve the effectiveness of lighting in their premises, an Excel-based tool to assists users to consider and compare alternative heat and fuel sources at the design stage of new-build or refurbishment projects.
- BMS Guidance - A guide to help organisations through the processes of procuring a Building Management System (BMS) and support services. The guidance document will help people to design a system that suits their requirements. It also provides advice on the procurement process to help with the upgrade or installation of the best system. A Building Management System (BMS) designed to suit the building can create a productive environment for the occupants and reduce energy costs by 10% to 30%. The flexibility of the system allows real-time access to work reactively to the needs of the occupants and weather conditions. The technical guide and specification template will help organisations through the processes of procuring a BMS and support services.
- Light Touch Calculator – This tool has proven valuable to those wishing to improve the effectiveness of lighting in their premises. Recent updates have made the tool more user friendly and provides a number of new potential outcomes for internal and external lighting, and now includes street lighting. The tool undertakes an array of calculations to determine the capital costs, annual savings (kWh, £, CO2) and payback periods for the proposed replacement fittings, and generates a series of reports that summarise the potential benefits. The recommendations within these reports can then be included in an Outline Business Case to progress the project, with robust evidence to substantiate the reason on the proposed capital investment. The tool and accompanying user guide can be found by clicking on the link above. There is also a short video which provides a short summary of the tool and its application.
- Boiler Replacement Tool - The Microsoft® Excel™ based tool assists users to consider and compare alternative heat and fuel sources at the design stage of new-build or refurbishment projects. It is designed to provide a user friendly experience while guiding the user through various pages to supply specific inputs relevant to the heat and fuel sources appraised. The resulting data will provide insight on; annual fuel consumption, CO2 emissions & cost and Net Present Value of investment - graphically displayed as printable charts. For an explanation on how to use the tool, please refer to the User Manual.
