Edinburgh Castle Energy Saving Tour

Over the past few years SSN member Historic Environment Scotland (HES) have been working hard to reduce Edinburgh Castle’s energy consumption with some fantastic savings achieved.

Made up of 27 individual buildings and supporting an infrastructure that welcomes over one million visitors every year, the castle is the biggest energy user in HES’s portfolio of properties in care.

But since HES’s baseline year of 2008/09, energy consumption at the Castle has reduced by over 30%. This has been realised through a programme of works implemented in and around the castle.

HES have organised a behind the scenes Castle tour, to allow you to see first-hand many of the energy saving techniques that have successfully applied at the castle. The tour will be given by HES’s District Architect for the castle, Bruce Chandler, along with members of the Climate Change Team who will be on hand to answer any questions.

The tours will take place on Friday 25 November, between 10am-12pm, and 1pm-3pm. The tour is included in the Edinburgh Castle admission price, but booking is essential.

Spaces are limited and those wishing to attend are asked to reserve their place by emailing technicaleducation@hes.scot. Further information is available on the HES website.
