Newhaven Heritage Community Gardens
It all started with trying to bring colour to the dull homes in Newhaven. The group built and filled window boxes with local school children, took over a patch of land and now tends the Old Burial Ground and adds colour to four other plots in the historic village. Being in the gardens allows members to chat with local people who are older or with poor health, and introducing blossom has enhanced lives and there is always a chance for a chat. Young people are also involved: tending the plots in the playground together, growing herbs and strawberries as well as mushrooms which is all great fun.
