Gairloch Sitooterie (Wildlife Observation Garden)

2018 Certificate
Level 4 - Thriving
Four years ago, gorse bushes two to three metres high obscured the view along the Pier Road in Gairloch. A local retired couple cleared a 20metre stretch, prompting the council to hack down most of the gorse. The most amazing panoramic view of sea, mountains and wildlife was revealed. But hideous remains of stubble and litter remained, and not a seat to enjoy the view! Community energy began to gather, fund raising started and the first area began, with benches, plants and containers instantly donated. Within a year, the garden quadrupled in size and featured on BBC's Beechgrove Garden. The next, totally wheelchair friendly, seating area is planned for Easter.
