Castlemilk Day Nursery
The children at the nursery grew potatoes last year and parents were eager to try this in their own environment. The families signed up to grow at home on verandas and garden spaces. The group provided over 24 families and staff at the nursery with seed potatoes, grow bags, compost, feed and loads of helpful advice. It is going to offer healthy eating options at harvest time. It has encouraged some competition between the families, staff and the children who are growing potatoes once again in the nursery garden to see who can grow the smallest, the largest etc.
The group also regenerated an area in the nursery garden into a wildflower garden and learning space for the children and families. It engaged with a local community to help provide workshops with parents and children to help develop the space, and some of our parents volunteered their time to help clear the space and make it safe as well laying all the bark and helping with maintenance. The children created bug hotels, log and leaf piles and bird feeders as well as sowing the wildflower seeds, so its fingers crossed they grow and bloom.
