Dalserf Garden village club
The Dalserf Village Garden Club has flourished since its formation in August 2013. Currently there are 15 members and a 15 x 30m polytunnel where they grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and all kinds salad produce. The club also has an extensive piece of land outside for growing brassicas, sweetcorn, potatoes and onions, with bountiful harvests and the benefits this brings of eating fresh organic vegetables, trying out different varieties and introducing members to new tastes.
At present the club has an abundance of apples from its small orchard; there are three large apple trees which produce around 120 litres of apple juice alone. The club has expanded its orchard with cordon apples, which will also provide members with lots more apple juice in the years to come.
The club has planted up extensive banking next to the river with wild flowers, which help to encourage the bee and butterfly activity, and is continuing to strive to cut down waste and recycle as much as possible.
The club’s flowers in the village have been admired from all who visit and attend the local church, enhancing their experience and further adding to the local environment - the club members grow all the flowers for the village in their polytunnel.
